- What to Expect -

What you should expect at your first appointment.

Each physical therapy appointment at Iowa City Physical Therapy will last approximately 40 minutes. Our staff will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ailment and determine an appropriate plan of care to help you return to a higher level of function. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled based on the specific plan of care you and your therapist decide upon.

Do you need a referral for physical therapy?

Iowa is a direct access state which means the majority of health care insurance policies do not require a referral from a doctor or specialist for you to be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist. Medicare/Medicaid and a some private insurance polices do require a referral for physical therapy, so please contact your insurance provider to verify your coverage.

In November 2015, I started experiencing the worst pain I’ve ever felt during my lifetime. At this time, I was trying to cope with severe nerve and muscle pain resulting from a pinched nerve. Thankfully, Steve, Feryl and Rob at Iowa City Physical Therapy were able to help. Steve and Feryl are extremely knowledgeable about how the body functions and were able to prescribe the right physical therapy treatment specific to my issue leading to a successful recovery. They are the utmost professionals and truly care for their patients. Rob also did an outstanding job helping me schedule appointments that accommodated my work schedule. It was a long road back, but by using their expertise and compassion, Steve and Feryl helped me get back to normal and for that I will be forever grateful.

I have now worked with the good people at Iowa City Physical Therapy as I recovered from two surgeries - most recently a total knee replacement.
Both Steve Clark and Feryl York are incredible healers. They pushed me to regain full use of my knee, but always showed great compassion and kindness, especially when the process was difficult. I cannon overstate how professional Steve and Feryl are at what they do. They will challenge you and praise you along the way and when you are finished, they will feel like family.

On February 19th, I had bilateral knee replacement surgery and if it weren’t for Steve Clark and Feryl York, I would not be moving as well as I am today. The individual attention and detail that they provide is second to none. They cater to your individual needs and challenge you in a positive manner. I was amazed how quickly they had me on the bike and taking me to the next level of recovery. If you or a loved one is ever in need of physical therapy from an accident, injury or surgery, I would highly recommend Iowa CIty Physical Therapy.

Steve is a GREAT Physical Therapist who got me back to 100% after major shoulder surgery. He has also helped me with back issues. Steve treats his patients with respect and care and you never feel rushed. He takes the time to find out what the issue is and devises a game plan for the proper treatment. I have recommended Steve and Iowa City Physical Therapy to others looking for great care and will continue to do so.

I’ve seen Steve for various issues throughout my years as an Iowa City resident. There are many options in town, but Iowa City Physical Therapy remains the only option for me and my household. The sessions are private, friendly, and effective. Often, I see relief from pain in just one session. His continued personal commitment to the progress of my health is what separates him from the rest of the pack.
